£20,000 boost helps Macclesfield music project expand free DJ sessions

A Macclesfield community project using music to tackle social isolation and support young people’s wellbeing has secured a £20,000 funding boost.

Unknown Macc CIC, based at Proper Sound on Chestergate, has received the money from the National Lottery Community Fund.

The funding will allow the project to buy its own vinyl and digital DJ equipment and expand free group sessions and one-to-one DJ tuition for young people aged 11 to 25.

The project uses music as a way of bringing people together, building confidence and creating a positive social space for young people who may otherwise feel isolated.

Founder Lucie Wright described the funding as a major step forward for the organisation and said it would help Unknown Macc reach more people in the community.
